Workshop 1: INTRODUCTION - The game-changing European Green Deal and the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability - ONLINE

15 March 2022 – ONLINE

The Green Deal and Chemical Strategy for Sustainability are game-changers: The highly regulated chemical sector is expected to transform to become climate-neutral, circular and cause near-zero impact on human health and the environment by 2050 with various requirements stemming from different policy domains, ranging from finance, climate/ETS, product policy to corporate reporting and due diligence.

essenscia will provide a clear landscape overview of all relevant policy proposals for our sector, with the best, most up-to-date information available.

Companies will explain how they see these game-changers as opportunities for future, sustained and sustainable growth of their companies.

Trainers: essenscia
Testimonials:
Janssen, Allnex

Workshop 2: SUSTAINABILITY REPORTING - From basic data collection to the newest reporting features

19 April 2022

Increased transparency is a key feature of the different EU sustainability dossiers, and the EU Taxonomy is no stranger to this. Companies are faced with a growing number of requests for data: from downstream clients, financial institutions, end consumers, etc. The type and extent of the required information depends, for instance, on  the type of company, its size, product portfolio, and applications. In order to provide correct information, companies must be organized and able to collect, understand, analyze and manage the relevant data and data flows.

Engaging in sustainability reporting allows you to get organized within your teams and start much-needed discussions and preparations for  collection and analysis of data (flows). You can gradually improve your ability to respond to questions on sustainability strategy and performance. Sustainability reporting falls within the larger strategy and organization of a company and also involves a set of daily practices, all of which are brought together in a report (which is just the visible and consolidated tip of the iceberg).

This session dives into the whys and the hows of sustainability reporting, covering some key elements (e.g. the notion of double materiality, the EU Taxonomy), referencing the (upcoming) Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, and finally guiding you towards some ‘must-do  measures’ which you can already implement to get prepared. More advanced features of sustainability reporting using GRI, Science Based Targets, Integrated Reporting,… will also be touched upon.

Workshop 3: SUSTAINABILITY MANAGEMENT IN PRACTICE - Building blocks for a co-created sustainability strategy

17 May 2022

Only 2% of sustainability programs meet or exceed expectations – a low success rate. Having a clear and focused sustainability strategy, co-created by a broad leadership coalition and translated into internal and external targets, are only a few of the key characteristics that set sustainability leaders apart.

Are you eager to learn how you can start defining your sustainability strategy? And what are the do’s and don’ts when deploying sustainability towards processes, systems, people and culture? At the end of this workshop you will have a clear view of the main building blocks of world-class sustainability programs – highlighted with examples from front-running companies like Solvay, DSM, Philips and Interface Inc.

Trainer: Möbius
Testimonial: UCB, INEOS Styrolution

Workshop 4: SUSTAINABLE PORTFOLIO ASSESSMENT - From methodology towards application

14 June 2022

A dedicated session on the Sustainable Portfolio Assessment methodology as developed by pioneering Chemical Companies in 2018, and which strongly resonates with the call from the European Commission to develop Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) chemicals products and solutions. This approach can be applied to both innovations, and to existing product portfolios. Why is this important? How do you do it? How can you apply this progressively within your company? Chemical companies will explain why they decided to do it. What benefits they see in applying it and which lessons they learned doing it. So that all ‘next-generation chemical products’ will meet the changing demands of society, clients and stakeholders,  in terms of performance, safety, and environmental profile.

BASF, Oleon, Solvay

essenscia’s sustainability training 2022 is FULL and registrations are now closed.
If you have an interest in this training, please send a message to sgeorges@essenscia.be. Depending on the amount of interest, essenscia will see whether the training might be (re)organized, or whether a similar sustainability training could be organized later this year. Thanks for your interest.
——————————————
Why is this brand new sustainability training program needed? With the European Green Deal and the European Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability published in 2019 and 2020, the European Commission has made it clear that sustainability is now at the heart of EU policy making.

The European chemical, plastics and life sciences industry is expected to transform to become climate neutral & circular by 2050, and respect the Zero Pollution Ambition as set out in the European Zero Pollution Action Plan.

In other words: we are an industry in transition. Sustainability is no longer a nice to have, but a must-have.

Soon companies will need to implement a whole new set of European regulatory requirements . essenscia designed this series of four half-day workshops to help companies, especially SME’s, to prepare, even though all implementation details are not yet fully known.

essenscia organizes a dedicated training comprising 4-workshops on sustainability, with the expert help of Sustenuto and Möbius and with the support of the following companies that will share their experiences: Oleon, INEOS Styrolution, Janssen Pharmaceutica, NMC, Allnex, BASF, Solvay and UCB.

After this series of workshops you:

  • will have a clear view of all upcoming regulatory and policy dossiers affecting the chemical industry related to the sustainable transformation expected from the sector,
  • be ready to start drafting a sustainability report for your company, according to standards,
  • be ready to develop and implement your own differentiating sustainability strategy, and are able to hardwire it into the core of your organization,
  • understand the why and how of sustainable portfolio assessment of your company’s product portfolio,
  • have shared experiences, learned best practices, and built a network of colleagues on implementing sustainability in a chemical company.

Where? essenscia, Bluepoint Brussels, August Reyerslaan 80, 1030 Schaarbeek. We prefer in-person workshops to share best practices, unless prevented by government health restrictions due to the covid pandemic. Any changes to the arrangements will be communicated to registered participants in advance.

When? Tuesday 15th  March, 19th  April, 17th  May and 14th  June 2022 from 13:30 to 16:30.

Language? The training will be in English.

For whom? Any Belgian chemical, life sciences or plastics company wanting to implement sustainability in their company. No prior knowledge on sustainability or EU policy is required.

Price (excl. VAT):
– essenscia members: 900€ for the 4 workshops
– essenscia non-members: 1800 € for the 4 workshops
Price includes: presentations, coffee, certificate
It is possible to follow a single workshop at 275€/workshop for essenscia members, 385€/workshop for essenscia non-members.

If you already have specific questions, please let us know in advance at sbracke@essenscia.be so the trainers can address them in the workshops.
