essenscia process safety academy invites you to a 3 day course from idea to pilot installation. The activity covers concepts which are essential in professional and career development for this target audience, namely Process Safety, Research, Start-ups and Pilot installations. This integrated approach, i.e. from process safety at lab-scale towards industrial-scale pilot plant production, is necessary for professional and career development. The activity is limited to 20 PhD students and postdocs to promote hands-on knowledge transfer and people from the chemical and life sciences industry mixed with industry participants.
The goal of the activity is chemical laboratory safety and scale-up of lab-scale chemical experiments towards chemical pilot plants and the final scale-up into industrial-scale pilot installations for real-life production.
The program of the activity is divided into 3 days:
– The first day starts with a theoretical explanation of intrinsic chemical hazards and risks at lab-scale, including the relevant research aspects on the REACH regulation to ensure life cycle safety.
– The second day focuses on the reaction chemistry of two pilot plants in the Flemish region, including focus on the upmost important aspect on safety of the pilot plant and influences on the final upscaling.
– The third day treats road maps for chemical process innovation in an incubator towards real-life realisations.
The academic coordination will be supervised by Prof. Dr. ir. Paul Van Steenberge (Laboratory of Chemical Technology, EA11, UGent).
