Helping SMEs and companies in the chemical and life sciences sector to increase their energy efficiency and improve their climate performance. That is the aim of Energy4Climate, a unique energy and climate project that essenscia launched in May with the support of the Flemish Energy and Climate Agency. How does this translate into practice? Arno Anthonisse, QHSE Manager at Caldic, shares his experiences.
Caldic was one of the first companies to register for Energy4Climate. Why did you decide to take part in this project?

Anthonisse: “The employees of Caldic are very involved in the organisation. Both to improve our own organisation and processes and to achieve better performance for people and environment. “Because we care” is not just a slogan. It is also the main reason why we participate in Energy4Climate: we want to take responsibility for reducing our CO2 emissions.”
“In order to achieve this, we want to use all means at our disposal. For example, through Energy4Climate we can call on energy and climate experts who give us a detailed insight into our CO2 emissions. Based on their analyses, we have been able to take targeted actions to reduce our emissions.”
Can you give an example of this?
Anthonisse: “Just by adjusting the lighting in our warehouses and on our sites, we can reduce our CO2 emissions by over 25 tonnes. Per year! Currently we are preparing this project together with the energy consultant. He is also supporting us by asking for offers from different suppliers.”
What are the main benefits of the project?
Anthonisse: “The energy scan carried out at our site quickly showed a number of quick wins to reduce our CO2 emissions. Things we would not have thought of ourselves. So the analysis by the energy and climate coach certainly added value. We used the results of the energy scan to draw up investment plans. The fact that the report includes the payback period of an investment makes it all the more useful.”
“In addition, of course, it is nice that our clients have noticed that we want to improve our climate performance by participating in Energy4Climate. Their reactions show that they appreciate this very much.”
