The BEP4CAL project enters a new stage and needs once more your help and data. The project is now in the phase of assessing the socio-economic impacts associated with a set of shortlisted policy options. For this assessment, input of manufacturers, importers and users of relevant substances is crucial. This is to ensure that potential costs and benefits to Belgian industry are correctly understood and can be considered in the socio-economic assessment.
The following SVHC substances are selected for the test case:
- 2-methoxyethanol (CAS No: 109-86-4)
- Phenol, dodecyl-, branched (CAS No: 121158-58-5)
- Alkanes, C14-17 chloro(MCCP) (CAS No: 185535-85-9)
- Diazene-1,2-dicarboxamide (C,C’-azodi(formamide)) (ADCA) (CAS No: 123-77-3)
If one (or more) of these substances relevant chemical for your sector, we kindly ask you to check if this substance is used in your organisation. If this is the case, we encourage you to fill in the below survey before the 17th of May, covering the manufacturing/import/use of the substance, barriers and drivers for substitution and the potential impact on your organisation if the identified measures where to be implemented. It takes about 25-40 minutes to fill in the survey.
The Belgian Federal Ministry of Economy does not require access to any confidential information you would provide. They have instructed the project team to anonymise and/or aggregate any confidential information for use in the final report of the BEP4CAL project in order to safeguard business interests.
The purpose of the Belgian Plan for Chemical Alternatives (BEP4CAL) is to identify a set of policy measures that Belgium could take in addition to other existing international measures to support and promote the substitution of SVHCs.
The goals are to:
- Accelerate the elimination and/or substitution of substances of very high concern (SVHCs) to advance Belgium’s economic competitiveness and its transition towards a sustainable and circular economy.
- Position Belgium as a leader in the transition to safer and more sustainable products and industrial processes.
- Support Belgian businesses to innovate and adopt safer, more sustainable alternatives to substances of very high concern in products, materials, and processes.
- Support the research, innovation in and development of solutions needed to accelerate the transition towards safer and sustainable chemicals and a toxic free environment.
