The Royal Flemish Chemical Society (KVCV, youth division) and Chemical Research in Flanders (CRF) are planning a general chemistry symposium, CRF-ChemCYS 2022, on 12 – 14th of October 2022 at the conference venue Floréal, Blankenberge, Belgium. In the past, both parties organised separate conferences. The Chemical Conference for Young Scientists (ChemCYS) is a renowned, biennial conference set up by the youth division of KVCV, where young researchers had the opportunity to present their work – sometimes for the first time – before an international audience. CRF, on the other hand, has known two editions already, during which it brought together chemical academia and industry in Flanders. For the 2022 edition the strengths of both conferences will be combined. As such, the CRF-ChemCYS 2022 promises to be a meeting point between chemical academia and industry, young and experienced, national and international.
CRF-ChemCYS 2022 covers all areas of chemistry in the form of six themes: Chemical Synthesis & Methodologies, Chemical Processes & Reactor Technologies, Chemistry Meets Biology, Energy & Environment, Functional Materials en Renewables & Sustainability. These themes encompass application areas, rather than purely chemical branches, stimulating interdisciplinary collaborations. There will be eleven invited scientific lectures concerning the above-mentioned themes. Additionally, two plenary lectures are provisioned, where a broader and important chemical topic will be expounded.
The remainder of the conference will be shaped by the participants: everyone is invited to send in an application for contributing with an oral or poster presentation, again within the six predefined themes. The oral presentations will take place in parallel sessions. Two sessions are provisioned for the poster presentations. A scientific jury will carefully examine all poster and oral presentations, selecting the best contribution within each theme. This setup is the perfect occasion for young scientists to present their work to professionals, and to scientifically connect with others.
Besides the purely scientific, the “soft side” of science is an important part of CRF-ChemCYS 2022. During the first evening there will be the KaféCV networking event. KaféCV is a meeting place between the chemical industry and institutes on the one hand, and young scientists on the other hand. Also soft-skill seminars will be foreseen during the conference.

The symposium would not exist without financial support from sponsors. Our current sponsors can be found on our sponsor webpage. However, to keep registration fees affordable for our attendees and to ensure a high-quality symposium, we are still looking for additional sponsors.
