The ATIEL & UEIL Joint Sustainability Committee is dedicated to advancing the sustainability efforts of its members by providing practical guidance and actionable insights. A key objective of this initiative is to empower members of both associations, as well as the wider lubricants industry and customers, to enhance their lubricant end-of-life programs as part of broader sustainability initiatives. Given the dynamic nature of sustainability-related developments, this document outlines current best practices while also providing links to online resources that are updated more frequently to reflect emerging trends and regulatory changes within the lubricants industry.
The chapters investigate evolving European regulatory frameworks and also delve into how to develop key strategies for sustainable and circular lubricant portfolios, look at encouraging sustainable raw material sourcing as well as giving specific advice across a range of different lubricant applications. By leveraging the insights presented in this document, the lubricants industry is encouraged to strengthen sustainability strategies, contribute to circularity, and drive industry-wide improvements in lubricant lifecycle management.
The document was presented at the 2025 ATIEL Technical Seminar in Brussels on 5th of June, where it was formally introduced by Joris Van der List, Shepherd of the Downstream Working Group of the ATIEL & UEIL JSC.
