In order to help the Flemish industry with the implementation of REACH and CLP, essenscia vlaanderen has since end 2007 several guidance projects.
VLARIP stands for “Vlaanderens REACH & CLP Implementatie Projecten” (REACH & CLP Implementation Projects in Flanders).
The first VLARIP project were closed festively at the VLARIP event on 20 january 2011 where the the continuation project VLARIP 2 was annonced. VLARIP2 groups the previous projects VLARIP chemical industry, VLARIP downstream users, VLARIP services. The first project, VLARIPchemical industry, was focused on the chemical industry, as they have the most REACH & CLP obligations to fulfill. As REACH introduces a new communication approach in the chain, and some additional obligations for the downstream users of chemical substances and mixtures, these companies also need help in the REACH implementation. Therefore, essenscia vlaanderen launched the project VLARIPusers. The members of this projectgroup were essentially companies which use chemical products in their production process to manufacture or treat objects. They no longer put a chemical product on the market. Such a downstream users project has been developped in collaboration with Fedustria and Centexbel for the textile sector, which is an important user of chemicals. This project is called VLARIPtextile. This project has been prolonged as VLARIPtextiel 2.
The REACH regulation also offers opportunities to the services sector. This regulation requires new communication tools, large tests packages, legal aid, ... The VLARIPprojects reveal needs that are not always immediately or clearly available in the Flemish business landscape. The participants in the project VLARIPservices are invited to develop and offer an answer.
The participants are no longer divided into groups according to their role or sector but according to interests in certain topics. The projects rely on the principle of mentorship and are made possible by the voluntary collaboration of mentors from big chemical companies and by the support of the Flemish Government and Europe.
