Environmental management

Environmental management is at the heart of chemical and life science company concerns. Environmental management includes areas as diverse as energy efficiency, emissions management, the reduction of waste in water, waste management and accident prevention. Environmental management is implemented and measured in a consistent manner day-to-day by every company.

The collection of data and the publication of sector benefits are a mission of priority for essenscia. Every other year, essenscia publishes the results obtained by the whole sector in the following domains: rejections in the environment, work accidents, consumption of water and of energy, investments, etc.

essenscia also participates in several consultative counsels that bring together concerned parties of "stakeholders", meaning unions, employers, NGOs working on development and protection of the environment, consumer protection organisations and the academic world.

Thus essenscia is present within the general assembly of the Conseil fédéral du développement durable (Federal Counsel on Sustainable Development, or CFDD) and within its different work groups dealing with matters such as climate change, national and international strategies for sustainable development, product standards, biodiversity, scientific research, etc.

At the regional level, essenscia is present through the employer organisations (UWE and Voka), within environmental consultative counsels such as the Conseil wallon de l’environnement pour le développement durable (Walloon Counsel on Sustainable Development for the Environment, or CWEDD) and Milieu- en Natuurraad van Vlaanderen (the Flanders Nature and Environment Council, or Mina-Raad).
