SAICM (Strategic Approach to International Chemical Management)
|
Adopted in Dubai on 06 February 2006 under the auspices of the United Nations during the International Conference on Chemical Management, SAICM is aimed at establishing an international approach for the management of risks linked to the chemical products. Developed by a group made up of different stakeholders from different sectors («multistakeholders/multi-sectoral »), this strategy aims to achieve objectives set during the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg. One of those goals is "to guarantee production and use of chemicals in a way that significantly reduces their negative impacts on the environment and human health by 2020". This international strategy is then translated at the national level in different countries. It is closely linked to the implementation of the European legislation REACH.
