The Responsible Care Prize rewards chemical and life sciences companies for concrete and substantial contributions to and developments in sustainable development, particularly in the areas covered by Responsible Care: safety, health and protection of the environment.
The Responsible Care Prize is awarded every other year by essenscia (see 2007 rules). An independent jury comprised of experts evaluates the nominees and chooses the national winners. A National First Prize-winner can present his application at the European level, with Cefic, to compete for the European Responsible Care Awards. He or she can also compete for Belgian environmental prize (Prix belge de l’environnement), set up by the country’s four business federations (FEB, UWE, UEB and Voka).
Many businesses make substantial effort to translate the concept of sustainable development and the philosophy of the Responsible Care into an everyday reality. The Responsible Care Prize is a good opportunity to spotlight these efforts. The communication and spread of good practices also constitute an important element of the programme.
The Responsible Care Prize is covered by printed and electronic media, giving winners press coverage and publicity. It boosts the credibility of the entire Responsible Care programme and promotes public confidence in the chemical industry.
