LRI (Long-range Research Initiative)

LRI is a long-term, global research initiative to find out if links exist between the presence of trace amounts of chemicals in our environment and the rise in certain illnesses.

Since chemical analysis techniques have become incredible in their precision, we are confronted more and more with all sorts of waste product and traces and residue of chemical products in our environment, food and everyday items that we use. These substances were probably present before, but we were unaware of them because their concentration was too minimal to be detected by the measure devices.

The chemical industry seeks better understanding of these phenomena. It has decided to initiate research into them itself. Certain researchers have established a relationship between the presence of these residues and phenomena such as the occurrence of certain diseases and ailments including cancer, allergies and asthma, factors influencing heredity, lowered human fertility, hormonal imbalances and more.

Research is conducted in collaboration with independent laboratories, universities and public authorities. Their progress is regularly monitored in a way that assures efficient procedures are followed and that results are credible. This research as well as the conclusions of the work produced are go through a verification process by other scientific experts ("peer reviews") before being published.
